A proposal in Albany County to increase the age to buy tobacco and tobacco products from 18 to 21 went before a public hearing recently. Check it out:
While there are several regulations currently in place on tobacco products in Albany County and New York State, one more may soon go into effect. Currently, individuals over the age of 18 can purchase a pack of cigarettes locally for around $10.
Those behind the proposal state that it will help keep kids from smoking. However, local smoke shop owners state it will just drive business elsewhere to other counties in the area.
