The Tri-City ValleyCats, along with community partners BlueShield of Northeastern New York and Hannaford Supermarkets, are entering their sixth year of the Community Grounds Crew Program, which will lead the renovation efforts on multiple youth ball fields throughout the spring and summer months.
The Community Grounds Crew Program will kick off on Thursday, April 14 with the distinguished ‘4 in 24′ field renovation project, where four select youth ball fields will receive a complete facelift in less than 24 hours.
The extent of the work includes new sod placed on the infield, rebuilding of the pitcher’s mound and home plate areas, raking and grading of the infield dirt, cutting the baselines to the correct specifications, and much more.
“We are excited to continue the Community Grounds Crew partnership and ‘4 in 24’ project to provide safe and well-maintained fields for local children and families to utilize,” said ValleyCats General Manager, Matt Callahan in a press release. “Along with our partners, BlueShield and Hannaford, this remains an important initiative for our organization in supporting youth sports leagues throughout the Capital Region community.”
The ValleyCats are currently accepting applications from youth leagues across the Capital Region who are interested in having their field considered for the ‘4 in 24’ or other Community Grounds Crew renovations. Applications can be found online.
