Concerned for the Hungry‘s Annual Thanksgiving program isn’t the usual sit-down Thanksgiving dinner most organizations provide! Details have been released for this year’s program, and whether you’re interested in receiving a food box or volunteering, here’s everything you need to know.
Concerned for the Hungry aims to empower families to take charge of their own holiday by providing all the ingredients and fixings they need to create a feast! Thanksgiving isn’t just about eating the food, but about preparing and cooking it together, and Concerned for the Hungry makes that happen.

Schedule of Events for Volunteers
Wednesday, Nov 16th, 4pm to 7pm: Volunteers will assemble nearly 3,000 boxes to be filled with Thanksgiving food.
Thursday, Nov 17th, 9am to 3pm: The food arrives and volunteers unload it for the boxes.
Friday, Nov 18th, 9am to 4pm: The food is sorted into “mini-mountains.”
Saturday, Nov 19th, 10am to 5pm – Red Wagon Day: Volunteers of all ages wheel red wagons through the mini mountains of food, picking up an item at each stop. This is a fun event for the whole family, as everyone works together to make their way through the makeshift food warehouse filling boxes with items like potatoes, carrots, onions, canned vegetables, and onion strings. The able-bodied volunteers push and lift boxes into a pile on the gym floor, making a giant mountain.
Sunday, Nov 20th, 9am to 6pm: The giant mountain comes down as volunteers load the boxes into cars and wagons, adding in turkeys and butter, to be distributed.
Monday, Nov 21st, 8am to 4pm: Volunteers help out with further deliveries and pick ups.
There is no need to register to volunteer and you can do so for one day or several! Just stop by the Keane Elementary School at 1252 Albany Street in Schenectady on the days/times you are available to pitch in.
