“Smelly cat, smelly cat, what are they feeding you? Smelly cat, smelly cat, it’s not your fault!” Do those iconic lines sound familiar? They’re lyrics from “Smelly Cat,” Friends character Phoebe Buffay’s signature song.
Later this season the Tri-City ValleyCats will be temporarily changing their name to the “Tri-City SmellyCats” for the “The One with the Friends Theme” promotion. Our favorite local baseball team is auctioning off SmellyCat jerseys along with three other specialty jerseys this year.

In addition to the Friends-themed jersey, the ValleyCats’ other specialty jerseys include a Harry Potter Quidditch jersey, a Make-a-Wish jersey, and a Christmas in July jersey; they auctioned off the Christmas in July jerseys on July 12 with proceeds benefitting the Salvation Army.
The Make-a-Wish jerseys will be auctioned off at the game on Sunday, July 30th against the Vermont Lake Monsters, and proceeds will of course go towards Make-a-Wish. On Monday, August 7th, the ValleyCats will play against the Aberdeen Ironbirds and will auction off the Harry Potter-themed jerseys to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
When the ValleyCats take on the Aberdeen Ironbirds once again on Friday, September 1st, they’ll temporarily change their name to the SmellyCats, to reflect the Friends-themed jerseys. The proceeds from these jerseys will go towards the Upstate New York MS Society, which hosted a walk at The Joe in May.
