Freedom Park Summer Concert Series: Music Company Orchestra

You can see the Music Company Orchestra performing classical music as part of the Freedom Park Summer Concert Series, happening in Scotia. This is a 60-piece volunteer orchestra dedicated to bringing classical music to those who might not otherwise hear it; the group also supports local charities.

Ragtime is being performed at the Park Playhouse in Washington Park. This is a classic musical that follows the lives of three families from three very different worlds as they pursue the American Dream. Lawn seats are free, otherwise tickets start at $16. The show is running Tuesday through Saturday at 8pm each week through July 29th.

Glimmerglass Festival – Porgy and Bess

The Glimmerlass Festival in Cooperstown, just about an hour and a half from Albany, is going on throughout the summer. Porgy and Bess is considered to be “one of the pillars of the American opera repertory.” Tickets start at $26.

The classic musical Oklahoma! is being performed at the Glimmerglass Festival. A lively rivalry between farmers and cowboys provides the backdrop for a fun love story between Curly, a cowboy, and Laurey, a farm girl.
