Local Hot Dogs on the List
When it comes to summer cooking, its easy to forget hot dogs in favor of large, juicy burgers. However, these restaurants are ensuring that their delicious creations remain in your memory for a very long time and keep you coming back for more.
Gus’s Hotdogs, located at 212 25th Street in Watervliet, ranked at #34 on The Daily Meal’s list of the 75 Best Hot Dogs in America. The restaurant, open Monday-Saturday 10:30 am – 10 pm, is a compact hot dog and burger shop with an indoor counter, walk-up window, and outdoor picnic tables. Add a choice of toppings onto your hot dog, including mustard, onions, meat sauce, ketchup, and cheddar cheese sauce. What could make this hot dog experience any better? Ordering a 1/2 pint of plain or chocolate milk to drink, of course!
Coming in at #54 on the list is Famous Lunch, found at 111 Congress Street in Troy, open Monday – Saturday, 7 am – 10 pm. Why is Famous Lunch famous? Visit the restaurant to learn about “Operation Hot Dogs” that involved flying Troy hot dogs to Russia for the birthday celebration of a U.S. Ambassador. While you’re there, you can enjoy one World Famous Hot Dog for just $0.60 or try to beat a hot dog eating record and win a free Famous Lunch t-shirt! Make sure to order some of the incredibly popular rice pudding and some zippy sauce to take with you after you finish your mouth-watering hot dog.
