In June, the Capital Region—along with Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Long Island—finally welcomed ride-sharing services to its streets! Now Lyft, a popular service operating throughout the nation, will be hosting events to show their appreciation to local supporters.
The decision to bring ride-sharing to the Capital Region comes after a vote to expand services beyond the Big Apple. Ride-sharing has since become a popular method of transportation, with renowned services like Lyft offering safety and convenience to residents, and great opportunities to drivers.
“This is just the beginning,” said Funsho Owolabi, Public Policy Manager of Lyft, in a statement. “With the continued help of officials, business owners, and more, Lyft will continue to grow, helping to stimulate the local economy, decrease congestion and improve road safety in Albany and across the region. Lyft is grateful to all who made ride-sharing possible, and of course the locals and guests using our service. It has been a tremendous few weeks so far, and we’re excited about what comes next.”
Officials, business owners, and Lyft team members are invited to celebrate! Two events will be held at Albany Capital Center on Tuesday, August 8, and will allow dignitaries, personnel, and drivers to come together in appreciation for the community.
The lineup for the evening includes:
- Speeches from dignitaries and elected officials, 5-6 p.m.,
- Dinner served to drivers, starting at 6 p.m.
“We’re in a great location here in downtown Albany, and are thrilled to facilitate ride-sharing for our guests and Capital Region residents,” said Doug McClaine, general manager at the Albany Capital Center, in a statement. “These appreciation events will help get the word out further, and we’re proud to be a part of Lyft’s entry in to this incredible area.”
Lyft is a San Francisco-based, nationally renowned ride-sharing mobile application that matches passengers to drivers in their area.
