You’ll certainly have enough choices of things to do over Labor Day Weekend in the Albany area! Three different fairs, the Scottish Games, and four other fun events are happening. What are you up to over the long weekend?

Three fairs are going on throughout the weekend! The Schaghticoke Fair and Columbia County Fair are each about 30 minutes from Albany, and the Fonda Fair is about 45 minutes away.
Wednesday, August 30 through Monday, September 4
The Schaghticoke Fair, the third oldest fair in the state, is happening this week through Labor Day with rides, exhibits, shows, and entertainment. Tickets are $11 for adults and free for kids 13 and under.

Country group Lonestar will be making an appearance at the Columbia County Fair, and you can also check out a demolition derby, tractor pulls, a rodeo, and much more. Tickets are $10, except on Sunday they’re $15, and kids 12 and under are free.

Animal shows, a talent contest, a rodeo, and more exciting entertainment will be going on at the Fonda Fair. Tickets are $10 for adults, $2 for kids 6 to 12 (except on Wednesday and Friday kids 14 and under are free), and kids under 6 are free.

Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3
If you’ve never been to the Scottish Games you might want to check it out this year! This two-day event entails pipe and drum bands, a dancing competition, an athletic competition, a Scottish breed dog show, live music, kids events, and more. You can even camp out on the fairgrounds – the event takes place at the Altamont Fairgrounds. Tickets are $22 and kids 12 and under are free.

If you’re a Friends fan this is the game for you! The ValleyCats will be celebrating one of the most popular TV shows of all time with “The Ones with the Friends Theme.”

This game is “Hockey Night” so wear your favorite NHL jersey. Youth hockey teams will be in attendance, and there will also be a postgame “Diamond Dig” where ladies in attendance will have a chance to dig for treasure.

Feel like taking it easy this weekend but still want to get out of the house? The Madison Theater is showing two very different, but equally fantastic, movies this weekend. Tickets for each are just $5.

This classic kids movie from 1993 tells the story of Scottie Smalls, who makes friends with kids who play baseball in a sandlot. The group runs into trouble when “Smalls” borrows an important baseball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence where a ferocious dog lives.
The Shining at The Madison Theater

The Shining from 1980 will be showing at The Madison Theater if you’re looking to get into the Halloween mood a little early. Relive Stephen King’s story of Jack Torrance as he loses his mind and succumbs to homicidal tendencies at an isolated hotel in Colorado.
