With the frigid weather we’ve been having lately it certainly isn’t too early to think spring! Plans are currently underway for the Tulip Festival, which takes place each May in Albany. The annual event that locals and visitors look forward to each year is currently seeking vendor submissions and Tulip Queen nominations.
Every year artisans, craftspeople, musicians, and more come together to sell their handmade goods and services and to provide entertainment at the Tulip Festival. All vendors are juried by a panel of experts to ensure the highest quality of goods are sold at this festival, and submissions are currently open.
Opportunities are also available for vendors and exhibitors in the KidZone area.
The deadline for vendor applications is Friday, March 2nd.
Nominate a Tulip Queen
Do you know a young woman who has a strong presence in the local community? You might be able to nominate her for Tulip Queen!
Tulip Queen nominees must meet the following qualifications: they must be between the ages of 18 and 24, live in Albany County, be knowledgeable of the local area, have a strong sense of community, and possess strong leadership skills.
Eligible women must reside in Albany County for the entire year of reign (May 2018 to May 2019). The Queen will be awarded a scholarship and each of her four Court members will receive a $1,500 scholarship award upon completion of the program.
The Queen and her court are chosen by local leaders and the five young women spend the following year working together on community outreach programs and educational initiatives.
About the Tulip Festival
The Tulip Festival is one of the most highly anticipated events in the Albany area. The festival takes place in Washington Park over Mother’s Day weekend, when thousands of tulips are in bloom.
In addition to the crowning of the Tulip Queen, the two-day festival also includes a number of musical acts, vendors, kids activities, and much more.
This year’s Tulip Festival will take place on May 12th and 13th, and this will be the 70th year of the exceptional event.
