A group of charities, food banks, business organizations and the city of Albany are once again teaming up in an effort to collect tons of non-perishable food items for pantries all across the city.
Cash donations are also being accepted in this widespread effort to deliver food resources to more than 1 million Albany residents.
The food drive started July 9 and will run through August 2nd, a time when local schools are closed for the summer and hunger is an even greater issue for kids and others throughout Albany.
“The timing of this city-wide food drive couldn’t be better. As schools are closed for summer there is an additional burden on struggling families to provide meals for their children,” said Natasha Pernicka, Executive Director for The Food Pantries for the Capital District, which has been spearheading this effort all the way back to 1980.
“On any given day, more than 900 children are fed because their parents were able to access food from a food pantry,” she said in a statement.
The City of Albany, The Food Pantries for the Capital District, KeyBank, and St. Peter’s Health Partners have organized the massive citywide effort, where donations can dropped off at numerous locations and events throughout Albany:
