Summer is drawing to a close and school will soon be back in session. This Labor Day weekend is the perfect opportunity to enjoy some great late summer fun. There’s not one, not two, but three county fairs taking place in the Albany area, along with the ever-popular Capital District Scottish Games, two nature-themed events, and five more can’t miss events below.

Rides, Shows & Fried Dough
Fair season is winding down! Some fairs have already come and gone – these three are running through the weekend. If you haven’t gotten to a fair yet this year this is your last chance.
Wednesday, August 29 through Monday, September 3
The Schaghticoke Fair is now in its 199th year! Visit the third oldest fair in the state and get to see, hear, taste, and feel agriculture in action. There will also be number of rides, shows, and more entertainment going on. General admission is $12.

See a demolition derby in action, check out a talent contest and pageant, see a variety of animal shows, and much more at the Fonda Fair. General admission is $10.

The Columbia County Fair is offering brand new entertainment this year that will fill the stages, exhibit buildings, barns, midway, and grandstand. General admission is $10 except on Sunday when it’s $15.

Capital District Scottish Games

The always popular Capital District Scottish Games returns to the Altamont Fairgrounds with live music, dance performances, a 5K race, kids activities, and much more. Tickets are $22 on Saturday and $12 on Sunday.
Take a Walk On the Wild Side
Family Fun Hike at the Pine Bush

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve is hosting an end of the summer family hike, suitable for ages 6 and up and adults. The guided hike will be approximately 1.4 miles and is free.
Wildlife Presentation at Thatcher Park
Saturday, September 1
See wildlife, including birds of prey, at Thatcher Park and learn about what to do if you find an abandoned or injured animal. They’re just asking for a small donation for the program.
Marvel At These Movies

If you’re a Marvel movie fan, you’ll want to head to Crossgates this weekend and into next week for a film festival showcasing your favorite Marvel films: Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, and more. Tickets are just $7 a movie, or you can get a full pass for $50.
Back to School Festival and Avengers: Infinity War

Enjoy a last hurrah before school starts at Lincoln Park. There will be music, family activities, snacks, and a chance to find out about a variety of fall programs going on in the area.

Relive one of your favorite movies at Proctors on Friday where they’ll be showing Mean Girls, a fun comedy about the social pecking order of teenage girls at school. You can also show off your Mean Girls knowledge for a chance to win prizes. General admission is $9.

Head to downtown Troy on Friday night for Troy Night Out fun. There will be art events, music, and more going on, and the theme this month is Student WelcomeFest.
