The 2020 race for presidency is already heating up as the list of candidates continues to grow almost every week. On last night’s episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, special guest New York State Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced she will run for President of the United States.
Senator Gillibrand Joins Field of Democratic Primary Candidates
During her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday, January 15, Senator Gillibrand officially revealed that she is forming an exploratory committee for her presidential campaign. According to Time.com, she said “I’m going to run for President of the United States because as a young mom, I’m going to fight for other people’s kids as hard as I would fight for my own — which is why I believe that health care should be a right and not a privilege.”
The announcement is not a surprise after news broke that Senator Gillibrand was eyeing Troy, NY as a base for her 2020 campaign. She recently expanded her political staff and secured office space in Troy.
In addition to Senator Gillibrand, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro have announced they are seeking the Democratic nomination for President.
