St. Patrick’s Day weekend has finally arrived, and you don’t have to be Irish to get festive and have fun in the Capital Region. Whether you’re listening to bagpipers play at the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade or shouting “sláinte” at a pub, there are plenty of things to do this weekend!
Discover St. Patrick’s Day-Themed Fun
If there’s one event you don’t want to miss this weekend, it’s the 69th Annual Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Beginning at 2:00pm in downtown Albany, Irish bagpipers, step dancers, marchers, and organizations will travel along the city’s streets in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.
Lace up your running shoes and take on the 2nd Annual Irish Sweat-er Albany St. Patrick’s Day 5K in downtown Albany. This fun run will bring runners along the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade route, and proceeds raised will benefit the Irish American Heritage Museum. Registration is available in advance and on race day.
Celebrate the Irish spirit this Saturday by attending the St. Paddy’s Pub Crawl in the City of Albany. Pick up a Pub Crawl certified map and visit local participating venues for all kinds of great drink specials. Registration will take place at LAX on Lark from 12:00pm-4:00pm.
On Sunday, the Children’s Museum of Science & Technology in Troy will get in the Irish spirit by hosting a Green Chemistry activity. Designed for kids, this chemistry workshop will explore fun experiments that have one thing in common, the color green.
Head over to Riverside Maple Farms in Glenville on Sunday for their St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Enjoy samples of maple products, explore the new Maple-Beer Trail, and watch as hot maple syrup turns into a delicious taffy treat on ice.
Attend Exceptional Shows & Performances
The Front Parlor Storytelling Series at The Linda will feature four local storytellers and special guest comedian/storyteller Jeff Simmermon. Throughout the night, these performers will share witty, honest, compelling, and sometimes sorrowful tales from their personal lives and observations.
Get ready for an outstanding comedy show during Mopco’s 4 for 1 Friday. From 8:00pm-10:00pm, four of the best improv groups in the Capital Region will perform on Mopco’s stage and leave you laughing all night long.
Bring the family to the Palace Theatre on Sunday and experience Symphonic Heroes, an energetic, hour-long concert that will begin at 3:00pm. Featuring a superhero theme, this Sunday Symphony will be a fantastic introduction to classical music for kids.
Prepare for Spring Golfing Season
The annual Empire Golf & Travel Expo marks the “official start” of golfing season in the Capital Region. This two-day expo is an excellent opportunity to shop for golf equipment and apparel, attend seminars, and prepare for your first trip to a golf course this year.
