For over 70 years, one of the highlights of Albany Tulip Fest has been the crowning of the Tulip Queen, a remarkable young woman who will serve as Albany’s Ambassador for one full year. At a recent press conference in Washington Park, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced the five 2019 Albany Tulip Queen finalists.
Meet Your Finalists
The five finalists were selected from a pool of dozens of nominees who underwent a series of interviews with a committee of local leaders. Each one was chosen based on their volunteer service, commitment to the local community, and leadership skills.
Although only one of these women will be crowned the 71st Albany Tulip Queen, all five will participate in volunteer projects throughout the year and work on community service and literacy advocacy initiatives.
As introduced by Mayor Kathy Sheehan, the five finalists are:
- Emily Barcia-Varno, Age 22, Glenmont
- Isabella Burnett, Age 19, Albany
- Parneet Kaur, Age 19, Green Island
- Megan Morrill, Age 23, Latham
- Michaela Schramm, Age 18, Loudonville
The 2019 Albany Tulip Queen Coronation will take place on Saturday, May 11, at the Lakehouse Stage in Washington Park during the annual Tulip Fest. The coronation is presented by Citizens Bank and will feature Mayor Sheehan, 2018 Tulip Queen Sawyer Cresap, and Chad O’Hara of B95.5.
