The buttery popcorn. The dimmed lights. The way the screen seems to suck you into the film. For those of you who enjoy the movie-watching experience in an actual movie theater, we have good news: Starting this Friday, October 23, you can catch new releases and more at Regal Crossgates & IMAX.
The Reopening & What to Expect With Safety Measures
Regal recently made the decision to reopen 11 theaters across the country and the Albany location at Crossgates is one of them. The news was announced on the heels of the Governor okaying movie theaters outside New York City reopening at 25% capacity under state guidance.
Not surprisingly, guests are encouraged to prepay for the tickets and social distancing and face masks will be enforced. Additional safety measures include two empty seats placed between each party on either side within the theaters, individual seats will be thoroughly cleaned between movie showings, and guests will be able to order from concessions on Regal’s mobile app for a touchless snack-buying experience.
“We are grateful to finally have initial guidelines from the state,” Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld who is a parent company of Regal, said in a statement. “With the implementation of robust health and safety measures as part of our commitment to the CinemaSafe protocols, our New York theaters and staff are thoroughly prepared for a safe and sustainable reopening.”
These are the Movies You’ll be Able to See
The new 2020 movies to be shown are Tenant, The New Mutants, The War With Grandpa, The Empty Man, Honest Thief, 2 Hearts, and Unhinged. They’re also showing seasonal movies including Monsters Inc and The Addams Family (2019), which will be available at just $5 per ticket.
Regal theater operations in other US markets will remain closed due to a lack of new movie releases. According to their statement, “Cinemas must have a solid pipeline of new movies in order to maintain stable operations.”
Taking the Reopening One Step at a Time
Regal is hopeful the powers that be will reschedule some of the movies that have been put on hold to be released in November and December, so keep an eye out for announcements from the film industry.
Like so many others, Regal continues to monitor the situation carefully and will communicate any changes or future plans as necessary.
