Lights, camera, action! If you love acting or want to experience what show business is like, then here’s your chance. Two upcoming HBO projects are seeking local men, women, and children in Albany and Troy who would like to be paid extras in their productions later this year.
Casting Call for Extras Is Underway
The two HBO projects that will be filming in the Albany/Troy area include The Gilded Age and The White House Plumbers.
The Gilded Age is a new HBO series from the creator of Downton Abbey that takes place during the American Gilded Age and follows young Marian Brook, the orphaned daughter of a Union general, who moves into the New York City home of her thoroughly “old money” aunts. Actress Louisa Jacobson will portray Marian, and the scenes filmed in Troy will be set in 1881.
The series is seeking Troy locals (men, women, and children) to portray various roles as extras. This is a paid role, and production in Troy will take place from May – June 2021.
The White House Plumbers is a new HBO series that tells the true story of “how Nixon’s own political saboteurs and Watergate masterminds, E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy, accidentally toppled the presidency they were trying to protect.” Actors Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux will star as Hunt and Liddy.
The series is seeking Albany locals (men, women, and children) to portray 1970s types. This is a paid role as an extra, and production in Albany will take place from late summer – early fall 2021.

Interested locals should note the following:
- Extra (aka Background) work is paid
- Adults must be okay working around atmospheric smoke
- Men must be okay getting a period appropriate haircut
- Everyone must attend a costume fitting prior to filming
- Mandatory COVID testing will be provided by production
