What’s Happening in Albany: From 4th of July to Alive at Five
Celebrate Independence Day with Fireworks & Fun at the Empire State Plaza
Are you ready to get festive and celebrate 4th of July this year? Price Chopper and Market 32 are once again presenting New York State’s 4th of July Celebration at the Empire State Plaza in Albany.
On July 4 from 6:00pm-10:00pm, this family-friendly event will feature live music from some of the Capital Region’s most exciting bands, food and beverage vendors, and the best fireworks show around. Make plans to attend the celebration and experience a night to remember.
Alive at Five Welcomes Back Live Audiences
After starting out with a few virtual performances, the Alive at Five summer concert series in Albany is welcoming back live audiences at full capacity. In a recent announcement, the City of Albany revealed that the upcoming Alive at Five concerts on July 7, 14, 21, and 28 will take place at Jennings Landing, and admission is free.
If you can’t attend, most of the concerts will be recorded and available to watch on the following Thursday. Check them out on the “Albany Events” Facebook page or YouTube channel.
Enjoy Free Summer Movies at the Palace Theatre
The Palace Theatre in Albany is finally reopening, and they have announced plans to host a free summer movie series that’s perfect for families. Mark your calendar for Moana on July 13, Sonic the Hedgehog on July 20, The Secret Life of Pets 2 on July 27, and other movies from July – August. Kids 12 and under receive free popcorn, and you can get your free tickets from the Palace Theatre Box Office or online.

Shop Local at Make It Up State’s New Albany Marketplace
If you like to shop local and support small businesses, then don’t miss out on Make It Up State’s new Midday Marketplace at SUNY Plaza, which will be held every Thursday from now through August 26. Open from 10:30am-1:30pm, this weekly marketplace includes a rotating lineup of local and regional vendors selling everything from food and beverages to gifts and artworks.
They also have a marketplace that’s hosted at Troy’s Riverfront Park. This marketplace is open 9:00am-2:00pm every Sunday (excluding July 4) from now through mid-October.
Beat the Heat at Albany’s Pools & Spray Pads
Looking for ways to stay cool during the hot days of summer? As of last weekend, the City of Albany’s public pools and spray pads are officially open for the season. Spray pads are open to the public, but the pools will only be open to City of Albany residents (proof required during first visit).
