Newsy Updates From the Catskills, Crossgates, and Beyond
Are You Up for the Catskills Fire Tower Challenge?

2022 is underway, which means it’s time to set some goals for the new year. If you want to stay active and get outdoors, then challenge yourself to complete the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s 2022 Catskills Fire Tower Challenge.
This year’s challenge runs from January 1, 2022 – December 31, 2022, and participants must hike to the region’s five historic fire towers and the new sixth fire tower that opened in fall 2019 at the Catskills Visitor Center. After you’ve completed and submitted the required hiking challenge log and photos, you’ll receive a commemorative patch and be entered to win great outdoor prizes.
Find Out What’s Going On at Crossgates Mall
Last month, Crossgates Mall in Albany welcomed a new store named OFFL/NE™ by Aerie, which is the sister store of American Eagle and aerie. OFFL/NE™ by Aerie is located on the lower level near the LEGO store, and shoppers will find an amazing selection of soft, cozy, and comfortable activewear, including leggings, bike shorts, tops, sports bras, bottoms, and more.
Additionally, the Times Union reports that the Williams-Sonoma store in Crossgates Mall will be closing on January 23 as the company plans to reduce brick and mortar costs. As the closing date approaches, the store is offering sales on a variety of in-stock merchandise.
A New Restaurant Is Coming to Latham
Renovations are underway at the former Kmart building in Latham as chef Paul Dimm looks to transform the space into The Scarlet Knife, a new restaurant featuring farm-to-table cuisine and delicious desserts/pastries. According to the Albany Business Review, the restaurant will include a large dining room with an open kitchen, a smaller dessert room, and an outdoor patio filled with greenery. Dimm is aiming for a mid-May soft opening.
