Take a Walk on the New Albany Skyway
After much anticipation, NY State Governor Kathy Hochul has officially announced the opening of the Albany Skyway, a new elevated park that reconnects downtown Albany to the Hudson River waterfront. The approximately half-mile long Skyway is fully accessible and compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, features pedestrian lighting, seating, and planters along the path, and it’s open to both pedestrians and bicyclists.
“The completion of the Albany Skyway is a game-changer for the city and the perfect example of a transformative infrastructure project that promotes equity and connectivity,” Governor Hochul said in a press release.
Visitors can access the Skyway from Broadway in Albany, or from the Corning Riverfront Preserve parking lot adjacent to the Hudson River.
Say Hello to River Street Market’s New Vendors
River Street Market in Troy is a food hall and community space that continues to grow and welcome new food and beverage vendors. On Saturday, May 7, River Street Market will celebrate three new vendors during a Grand Opening Bash, which is free and open to the public. The new vendors include Organa Juice Bar and Collar City Mac Shac, which will open on May 7, and Soul Delicious, which plans to open soon and will offer samples at the event.
The City of Albany Makes Outdoor Dining Expansion Permanent
To help local restaurants accommodate customers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Albany temporarily allowed businesses to apply to expand their outdoor seating area farther into the sidewalk. Now, according to an article from News10 ABC, the opportunity to expand outdoor seating is permanent.
The Albany Common Council recently passed legislation that allows restaurants to apply for a permit for expanded outdoor seating, as long as their plan is ADA compliant. With warmer weather coming, this is an excellent time for businesses to examine their current outdoor dining situation.
