With the beginning of December comes a variety of fun, festive events for all ages in the Capital Region. Enjoy tree lightings, the 2022 Jingle Bell Run, holiday markets, the Great Train Extravaganza, the Troy Victorian Stroll, and much more this weekend.
2022 City of Albany Tree Lighting

Start the season with the annual holiday tree lighting in Albany! There will be fun photo opportunities, crafts for attendees to take home, and free hot drinks and doughnuts from Cider Belly Doughnuts. Don’t miss this great holiday kickoff event.
Empire “Skate” Plaza Opening Day

The premier outdoor skating rink in the Capital Region opens for the winter season on Friday! The opening day event will feature a Rock-N-Skate with DJ Ketchup from 6 PM-8 PM. Skates are available to rent for children and adults for a small fee, but skating is free.
Downtown Albany Hot Chocolate Stroll

Get your passport and sample some of the best hot cocoa around to determine who will take home the 2022 trophy! Various locations will be offering grown-up hot chocolate cocktails for an additional price, and attendees will receive an exclusive mug with the purchase of their ticket. Get some of your holiday shopping done in Downtown Albany as you enjoy the stroll.

Tour Albany’s oldest building, the Van Ostrande-Radliff House, and enjoy the seasonal lights and greens! During your visit, check out the holiday market on site, which offers wares from a variety of local makers as well as delicious food.

Get dressed in your best holiday costume and spread good cheer for a great cause. The annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk raises funds for the Arthritis Foundation to help develop tools, resources, and fund research to beat the disease.
New York State’s Holiday Tree Lighting

Head to the Empire Plaza for a full afternoon of exciting and free events. The event will feature carriage rides, ice skating and demonstrations, a meet and greet with Santa and the Mrs., live music, and of course, the lighting of the holiday tree. Stick around for fireworks after the ceremony!

Check out the largest model railroad and toy train hobby show in eastern New York this Sunday. With dozens of vendors, models, parts, memorabilia, history, and experts at the show, it’s a must-see for anyone interested in these fascinating railed vehicles.

This year is the 40th anniversary of the Troy Victorian Stroll, and it’s sure to be special. The community will transform into a merry and magical stage—step back in time to enjoy live music, entertainment, tours, art, food, and much more at this one-of-a-kind event.
The 66th Annual Holiday Greens Show “Troy Meets the Gilded Age”

Tour the elegant Hart-Cluett House and check out a rare holiday display inspired by the Gilded Age, using seasonal flowers, greens, and more. Space is limited for these self-led tours, so purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. Docents will be available on site to answer any questions you may have!
