TROY NY — Intel Corporation will sponsor the 2008 FIRST LEGO® League (FLL) Climate Connections Challenge taking place at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on December 6, 2008. The global competition puts eight weeks of research, design, and programming to the test, giving local middle school students an opportunity to understand the common themes that connect science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“Intel has a strong history of supporting educational initiatives like the FIRST LEGO® League,” said Robert Richardson, education manager for Intel Massachusetts.

Area children are among the record 135,000 children in 40 countries competing in hundreds of qualifying events and Championship Tournaments. This year’s theme, “Climate Connections,” challenges teams of children ages 9 to 14 to use robotics to unite communities in the research and study of a global atmospheric phenomenon: the climate.

TROY NY — One of the Northeast’s premier free holiday events, the Stroll attracts more than 20,000 people to the Victorian splendor of historic downtown Troy and offers over 100 attractions. Live music, dancing, storytelling, theatre, costumed performers and more are set against a backdrop of unique shops, storefronts and restaurants, bringing the streets alive with Victorian holiday magic.

“Partnering in Service to Others” will be the theme of the 14th annual Gala to benefit
Community Caregivers, which will be held at the Albany Country Club on November 7..
Co-chairs Maureen Ramirez and Danny Ramirez promise an evening of good food, good
music and good fellowship—as well as a large and interesting assortment of live auction and
silent auction items.

In addtion the group will present three awards.

The Community Service Award will go to the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce.

The Albany Public Library Children’s Department at the Main Library is offering a free Red Cross Babysitting Training class on November 15th (9-5) to girls ages 11-14. If you know of anyone interested in getting this training, register today at 427-4310 as seats are limited.
Lunch is “on your own” so bring a lunch or plan to venture into the local eateries at the noon hour.
The class is subject to cancellation if the minimum capacity is not met so please be sure to sign up as soon as possible for this valuable class.

It is no different in the Capital Region where people are having trouble making ends meet and providing for their families. On Tuesday, November 25, the Salvation Army-Albany Area Services will be hosting a gala and video premiere at the Palace Theater, in Albany, from 5p.m.-8p.m. The fundraiser will kick-off the 2008 Annual Kettle Campaign and premiere a six and a half minute promotional video.
