Schenectady Museum Receives $3,000 Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network Grant

The Schenectady Museum & Suits-Bueche Planetarium has received a $3,000 Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net) grant. The funds will be used to help cover the cost of integrating real-world examples of nanotechnology into the Museum’s existing exhibits through a “Nanotrail” of nanotechnology-related items and information.

“This project will excite visitors with information about careers in nanotechnology, and create linkages with existing nanotechnology programming at the Museum, such as school break activities, school field trips, educational curriculum, and teacher training workshops,” Grants & Annual Fund Coordinator Susanne Dorr said. “While a permanent exhibit is devoted to nanotechnology within the Museum’s 3,500 square-foot primary [...]

ALBANY, NY – The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recently announced that the Addictions Care Center of Albany’s (ACCA) signature prevention education curriculum, An Apple A Day®, has been awarded Evidence-based Status. This is the first time that any Albany County substance abuse prevention provider has been given this national designation.

Funded through a grant from the Charitable Ventures Foundation and in collaboration Dr. Shannon O’Neill of Siena College, ACCA conducted a quantitative, longitudinal evaluation of the An Apple A Day® curriculum using a control group. Once research was completed, the study was submitted to SAMHSA for evaluation, and is now listed in the National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

Prior to receiving federal accreditation, An Apple A [...]

Dress

The dress of the week is a fabulous creation, once again from the incredible bridal extraordinaire Paloma Blanca.  This gown is beautiful and delicate, truly a work of art.  Made of Alencon lace, Paloma Blanca style #4266 is unlike any other gown not only at Angela’s Bridal, but also in the wedding world.  The style of lace used to construct this gown is extremely unique and different, as it has a much larger design and texture.  This lace gives the dress a vintage and antique-y feeling.

The scoop neckline of this gown is stunning and also very flattering.  The full lace drop-waist will give any bride that perfect hourglass figure that [...]

Albany, NY (December 8, 2011)

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that $785 million has been awarded through the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, continuing the Governor’s efforts to redesign the way state government works in order to drive economic growth and create jobs.

Announced in July, Regional Councils represent a fundamental shift in the state’s approach to economic development from a top-down development model to a community-based, performance driven approach which empowers individual areas to develop comprehensive strategic plans that invest in regional solutions to create jobs and economic growth. “Regional collaborations and planning is a roadmap to get New Yorkers back to work,” Governor Cuomo said. “The plans [...]
