COHOES—Continuing a tradition of hosting challenging, diverse exhibitions as part of their Visiting Artist Series [VAS], The Foundry for Art Design + Culture, present an exhibition that honors the peaceful return of 100 acres of sacred land at Cohoes Falls back to the Haudenosaunee, League of Iroquois by Brookfield Renewable Energy Company. Re-Place Kahon:ios surveys a landscape of place and displacement, and the importance of space and location in the process of identity formation. The exhibition featuring work of native artist Merritt Johnson is on view at the The Foundry from May 18 through June 23, 2013. Albany, NY – The Capital Region Rotary Club is participating in a new project to provide toys and activities to the young patients at The Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

“Bins of Fun” will provide the Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center with 13 bins filled with toys and activities for use by the hospital’s young patients. The bins will be presented to the hospital on Friday, April 5th, at 10am.

Rensselaer’s School of Engineering students are bringing the popular Exploring Engineering Days to miSci (museum of innovation and science, formerly the Schenectady Museum) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturdays in April, April 6, April 13, April 20 and April 27.

Three or four unique Exploring Engineering Day activities will be presented every Saturday in April in 30-minute blocks of time with staggered starts of two sessions beginning at 1:00 pm and the second starting at 1:15 pm. The activities will be led by 15 different collegiate and high school teams.

Exploring Engineering Day is an engineering educational outreach program for children grade three through grade six that takes place annually on Rensselaer’s campus, most recently on Saturday, February 16, 2013. 65th Annual Albany Tulip Festival

Albany, New York – Mayor Jerry Jennings, the City of Albany and the Tulip Festival Committee seek nominations for the 2013 Tulip Queen. The deadline to nominate yourself or a person you know is Monday, April 1.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Nominees must have a strong sense of community, be knowledgeable of Albany, and possess leadership skills. Eligible nominees are women between the ages of 18 and 23 who have never been married. miSci (museum of innovation and science, formerly Schenectady Museum) is offering extended hours during Spring Break and will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30, Monday, April 1 through Saturday, April 6 and 12 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 7. miSci is closed Easter Sunday, March 31. ALBANY, NY: The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) announce the 2nd Annual Downtown Albany Blues Music Contest. The competition, slated for Friday, May 3, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, will take place in numerous downtown Albany establishments, and feature regional and local blues bands competing for the prize of playing at one of the City of Albany’s Alive at Five outdoor concerts this summer.

This year’s competition includes an increase in the stipend for local and regional bands, as well as a new scoring method. 50% of the vote will be designated by a distinguished judge and 50% of the vote will be designated by popular vote.
