CDTA Access a Trend for Capital Region Colleges & Big Businesses?

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has recently announced yet another partnership, this time with The Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, which will provide their students unlimited access to CDTA service, including STAR & Northway Xpress, which started this spring semester.

To date, CDTA has universal access relationships with the University of Albany (SUNY), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), The College of Saint Rose, Russell Sage Colleges, Sidmore College, Schenectady County Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, Branford Hall Career Institute and Siena College.

CDTA did also announce a similar agreement with Shop Rite Supermarkets to transport their employees in what was considered a revolutionary employee benefit & retention tool.

Tim Urtz, Vice President of Human Resources and Community Affairs at ShopRite Supermarkets says that he is "proud to partner with the CDTA on this innovative program that offers associates free access to the entire CDTA system" and that "Our associates have been instrumental in the successful launch of our two -- soon to be three -- stores in the Capital Region. We are pleased to provide this added incentive to become part of the ShopRite family and reward those who currently are team members. We strongly believe that their satisfaction ultimately leads to a better customer experience."

What do you think about this trend? Do you think it's a sign that big business is starting to pay attention to the environment? Do you think this is a sign that local area employers see this as an investment in their own workforce?
