The Tri-City ValleyCats announced today that 1994 Albany-Colonie Yankee Derek Jeter will be the inaugural member of their brand new “Heritage Series Bobblehead Collection.” The collection will pay tribute to those who have played professional baseball in New York’s Capital Region.
The Derek Jeter Bobblehead will be given away to the first 1,500 fans that enter Joe Bruno Stadium on Heritage Night, Monday, August 20. That night the ‘Cats play host to the Staten Island Yankees, affiliate of the New York Yankees, beginning at 7pm.
Jeter was drafted sixth overall by the New York Yankees in 1992, and in 1994 was a member of the Double A
Albany-Colonie Yankees. Jeter played 34 games with Albany-Colonie, who played
their homes games at Heritage Park in Colonie from 1985-1994. He made his debut
with the New York Yankees in 1995 and since then the 12-time All-Star has been named Captain, won four World Series Championships and most
recently joined the 3,000 hit club.
“There is a long-standing tradition of professional
baseball here in the Capital Region, and we feel this is a great way to honor a
future Hall of Famer whose path to Cooperstown will have run through our local
community,” said ValleyCats Vice President and General Manager Rick
Murphy.
ValleyCats fans will have the opportunity to choose how the
Derek Jeter bobblehead looks through a poll on their Facebook page. Options
will be given on whether it will be a fielding, hitting or baserunning pose.
