Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute has been named one of the top engineering schools in the world by an industry-focused website. The engineering school’s rank was based on surveys taken by engineers, professionals and entrepreneurs working at technology companies.
The industry-focused website, Business Insider, ranked RPI number four after all the surveys were totaled up and received a 4.16 out of 5.
Business Insider asked the engineering workforce to rate how valuable degrees are from different engineering schools. RPI was placed fourth behind California Institute of Technology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University who ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the list, respectively.
RPI was ranked higher than University of California/Berkley, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Georgia Tech, Harvard University and Princeton University.
The results of the Business Insider survey showed that the two most important factors in choosing an engineering school are the skills and knowledge acquired in school and the brand value of the school. The survey also identified that IBM, Cisco Systems, Intel, Microsoft and Oracle as key employers of Rensselaer graduates.
