On Tuesday, January 7, Vice President Joe Biden will be visiting the Capital Region for the first time since taking office in 2009. Though details of Biden’s visit are scarce, we have gathered that he will be participating in an event with Governor Andrew Cuomo. The White House made this announcement on Sunday, commenting that there would be more information to come.
The event will reveal Cuomo’s agenda for 2014 and is also expected to detail New York’s recovery from HurricaneSandy.
The October 2012 storm destroyed parts of New York City, its suburbs, and regions of other northeastern states. This disaster uprooted the infrastructure of the affected areas, leaving many residents homeless and parts of New York State in need of reconstruction.
Last January, Congress approved relief packages totaling $60 billion, but many areas have yet to recover. With so much work to be done in the wake of Sandy, our guess is that Cuomo and Biden’s discussion will probably include specific details of the improvements that need to be made and the necessary steps to rebuild the communities that were gutted by Sandy.
Cuomo’s office declined to comment on Biden’s visit, so we will all be waiting for details of the conversation on Tuesday.
