The City of Albany and the surrounding area is brimming with holiday spirit and festivities, from community-wide celebrations to fantastic markets full of gifts. Although there are so many things to do, we’ve rounded up five of the best events happening this weekend in the Capital Region.
Holiday Fun Awaits Around Every Corner
Shop locally this holiday season and discover the Capital Region’s most unique gifts at Albany Barn’s annual Gifted Holiday Market. This weekend is the first of two Holiday Market weekends this December, and it will be open on Friday from 6:00pm-9:00pm and Saturday from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Highlights will include handmade goods made by artisans, live holiday music, winter-themed snacks and cocktails, interactive art, and more.
On weekends through December 23, you can visit The Arts Center of the Capital Region in Troy and browse their redesigned Holiday Shop. This volunteer-led shopping event features handmade fine art by artists who live and work in our area. You can discover one-of-a-kind items to give as holiday gifts, while at the same time supporting local artists and contributing to the Arts Center’s fund for early childhood programming.
Have a happy holiday season this weekend at Downtown Schenectady’s City Hall-iday! This magical celebration brings fun and festive cheer to the Schenectady community each year, offering live entertainment, kids’ crafts, free photos with Santa Claus, family hayrides, and much more.
While you’re there, take your taste buds on a journey at Schenectady County’s Chili Chowdown and Craft Brew Trail. Travel from location to location sampling delicious chili and local and regional craft beers.
Have you ever been to Santa’s Play Land in Round Lake? This winter wonderland is hosted by Quick Response Restoration and offers tons of activities to get parents and kids in the holiday spirit, and best of all, admission is free! Meet Santa and holiday characters, warm up with hot cocoa, and take a ride on board a Quick Express tractor-drawn train.
Experience an Altamont tradition this weekend when the community hosts their annual Victorian Holiday Celebration. On Sunday, December 9, visitors can take part in the Holiday House Tours and tour six historic homes around the area. Other holiday happenings will include a living nativity at Altamont Reformed Church, the Festival of Trees at the Masonic Hall, a Holiday Tree Lighting at Orsini Park, and more.
