Each year during Troy’s annual Hidden Garden Tour, visitors have the rare opportunity to explore the private sanctuaries of local city dwellers and see their unique and beautiful gardens. Now in its 20th year, the self-guided walking tour will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2019, and feature 42 backyard gardens in downtown Troy.
Celebrating the Tour’s 20th Anniversary
The 2019 Hidden Garden Tour will celebrate the event’s 20th anniversary and honor Nina Pattison, who helped organize the city’s first hidden garden tour. In tribute to her role as a founder, the event’s official name for this year is Nina’s Troy Hidden Garden Tour.
According to a press release, last year’s tour attracted over 1,000 visitors, which was a new record. Not only is this year’s attendance expected to be even higher, but the tour will include 42 gardens, 12 more than in previous events. The gardens will be located in the Historic Sage, Washington Park, and adjoining districts of downtown Troy.
Most of the gardens will be approximately the same size (20 feet by 30 feet), but each one will have its own style. You’ll see fountains, flowers, pools, pathways, plants, vegetables, and other unique garden features during your tour.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at check-in. You can purchase them in advance at Carmen’s Cafe, Truly Rhe, or online at the Hidden Garden Tour website: “https://www.hiddengardentour.com.” They will also be available on the day of the event at the Russell Sage College Parking lot (cash only).
Funds raised from Nina’s Troy Hidden Garden Tour will benefit Troy’s Prospect Park. The event will run from 4:00pm-7:30pm on Thursday, May 23.
