Albany’s historic Madison Theatre is reopening this Thursday, December 19, and in honor of the special occasion, a portion of Madison Avenue will be closed for a celebratory Block Party. Read on to get the details about the road closure, parking restrictions, and Madison Theatre’s renovations.
The Albany Police Department has announced that Madison Ave between West Lawrence Street and Main Ave will be closed to all traffic and parking from 12 pm to 11 pm on Thursday, December 19. You can easily avoid the road closure by taking Western Ave, and CTDA buses in the area will be detouring through Main Ave and Western Ave.
The block party will take place from 4 pm to 8 pm. The evening will feature hot food, popcorn, beer, and a live performance from Skeeter Creek. The night will be capped off with the premiere of Star Wars – The Rise of Skywalker, the first film to be screened at the theater in about two years.
The Madison Theatre, which dates back to 1929, has been updated with four screens and an eatery-style concept, all while maintaining the integrity of historic theater’s character. While movie-goers will be able to purchase food to eat during the show, there will also be an on-site lounge, bar, and full-service restaurant.
