The Return of Fitness at the Plaza and More Newsy Updates
Stay Active With Free Fitness Events in the Capital Region
Summer is the perfect time to get outdoors and stay active, and if you’re looking for a fun fitness class to attend, then you’re in luck. Free fitness classes will be held at both the Empire State Plaza in Albany and Riverfront Park in Troy.
In Albany, Fitness at the Plaza presented by Highmark Blue Shield of Northeastern New York will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 31 through August 25. Classes are open to all and will run from 5:00pm-6:00pm. In Troy, Fitness in the Park will take place on Sundays from June 12 through August 14. These classes will be professionally-led by instructors from The Hot Yoga Spot, and they will run from 9:00am-10:00am. Bring Your Furry Friend For a Shopping Trip at Colonie Center
In recent years, Colonie Center has allowed dog owners to bring their furry friend with them inside the mall’s common area. However, now they’re taking things a step forward by welcoming dog owners to visit shops with their leashed dog. All well-behaved dogs are welcome, regardless of breed, and over 20 retailers are designated as dog friendly. See the full list on their website, and plan your next shopping trip!
A Major New Development Is Coming to Troy’s Waterfront

This summer, regional development company First Columbia is expected to break ground on a new indoor rock climbing, fitness, and yoga facility at 545 River Street in Troy’s North Central neighborhood. The nearly 20,000-square-foot facility will be operated by Central Rock Gym and feature everything from 45-foot high walls for rock climbing to cardio machines, a weight room, and more.
According to a press release, Central Rock Gym will offer pre-sales of memberships soon at a discounted rate of $79/month for one year. After opening, the membership rate will be $89/month for one year. Check it out online: https://centralrockgym.com/troy/
