ALBANY NY -- Visit the Price Chopper Capital Holiday Lights in the Park this season, from November 23, 2012 through January 4, 2013. The 16th annual lights spectacular is an awe-inspiring show with over 125 light displays and scenes in Albany.
Drive through the park to marvel at never-before-seen displays along with some old time favorites. The theme for Capital Holiday Lights in the Park for 2012 is "The 16th Anniversary Celebration". There are new themed areas this year, including America's Heroes, Toyland, Santa on Vacation, Victorian Holiday, and Peace on Earth.
Meet Santa And His Reindeer
After you drive through this amazing display, enjoy all sorts of crafts, costumed characters, refreshments and even Santa (through Dec. 23) at the Lakehouse! Little ones will be able to whisper their Christmas wishes in Santa's ear while enjoying all sorts of fun and activities. Rudolph and his friends will be there with Santa November 25, November 27, December 4, 11, 18 and 23. The Lakehouse will be closed December 24-25, 31 and January 1-4.
CostTo drive through the display, it costs $15 per car, $25 for a limo or 15-passenger van and $75 for a bus. Enter the display at the Madison and New Scotland Ave entrance to Washington Park. Discount coupons for $5.00 off admission on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are available exclusively at Capital Region Price Chopper stores.
Take A Ride
Don't want to drive through? Take a ride! Visitors can take a carriage ride through the lights display Thursday through Sunday with Saratoga Horse and Carriage. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Feel like taking a walk? On three nights this year you can walk through Washington Park. Join in our Special Charity Walk Nights:
On Tuesday, November 20, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, for a monetary donation to benefit the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and the Animal Protective Fund, join us for “Pets walk your partners ” around the Lake.
On Wednesday, November 21, from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, walk the Lights Around the Lake and “Its for the Kids!” to benefit Albany PAL’s Annual Toy Drive. Bring a new, unwrapped toy donation, or make a cash donation and enjoy the fresh air as you gaze upon the brilliant light displays.
On Saturday, January 5, 2012 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM, join us as “PAL Packs the Pantry”. Your monetary donation will benefit local food pantries, and will allow you to walk a special tour around the Lake on this final night of the 16th Annual Price Chopper Capital Holiday Lights. So, put on your comfortable shoes, and join us for one of the fun-filled local charity walks at the Lights Around the Lake!
But How Do I Get There?!
FROM THE WEST: Go East on Route 20 into Albany. Bear right at fork in the road (intersection of Allen Street). Continue East on Madison Avenue to New Scotland Ave entrance. Turn left into Washington Park.
FROM THE EAST: Go West on I-90 to I-787 South. Continue South on I-787 to Madison Avenue exit. Proceed West on Madison Avenue to New Scotland Avenue. Entrance to Washington Park is on the right.
FROM THE NORTH: Go South to I-90. Exit I-90 at Arbor Hill. Continue straight on Henry Johnson Blvd., following it to New Scotland Avenue entrance.
FROM THE SOUTH: Take I-787 North to Exit 23 or (North to Southern Blvd.). Take Southern Blvd. to Delaware Avenue. Take a right on Delaware Avenue and proceed to Madison Avenue. Take a left on Madison to New Scotland Avenue entrance to Washington Park.
All proceeds from Price Chopper Capital Holiday Lights will benefit the Albany Police Athletic League, PAL, a juvenile crime- prevention program in the City of Albany.
And When Can We Go?
Capital Holiday Lights display runs 6 - 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and 6 - 10 PM Friday and Saturday through January 4, 2013. The event is brought to the Capital Region by Price Chopper Supermarkets, The City of Albany, Mayor Gerald D. Jennings and the Albany Police Athletic League, PAL.
