Visit the Price Chopper Capital Holiday Lights in the Park this season, from November 25, 2016 through January 3, 2017. This is a spectacular, awe-inspiring show with over 125 light displays and scenes in Albany.
Meet Santa and His Reindeer: After you drive through this amazing display, enjoy all sorts of crafts, costumed characters, refreshments, and even Santa himself at the Lakehouse through December 23rd. Little ones will be able to whisper their Christmas wishes in Santa's ear while enjoying all sorts of fun and activities.
To drive through the display, it costs:
- $20 per car
- $30 for a limo or 10-18 passenger van
- $50 for vehicles with 19-28 passengers
- $100 for school buses
- $125 for commercial coaches
All vehicles enter the display at the Madison and New Scotland Avenue entrance to Washington Park. Call the Albany Police Athletic League (PAL) at 518.435.0392 if you have questions about other vehicles not listed above.
- Capital Holiday Lights display runs Sundays through Thursdays from 6pm to 9pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 10pm from November 25th through January 3rd; The Lakehouse is open during the same hours.
- Santa will be at The Lakehouse through December 23rd.
- The Lakehouse is closed December 24th, 25th, 31st, and January 1st -3rd , but the drive through-show will run at its normally scheduled time.
*Note: These special events are the only time you are permitted to walk through Washington Park.
Friday, November 18th, 5pm to 8pm - Light Up the Holidays: Join Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Santa, and other special guests as they throw the switch for Light Up the Holidays. Take a walk around the lake as part of the walk-only Charity Walk Night to benefit the local Charities of Choice for 2016. Suggested donations are $5 per person or $10 per family.
Saturday, November 19th, 4pm to 8pm - A Taste of the Holidays: Albany PAL is presenting its first annual Craft Beer & Wine Festival at the Lights, exclusively featuring New York spirits and products.
Sunday, November 20th, 4pm to 8pm - 3rd Annual Capital Holiday Lights Chili, Chowder and SoupFest: This event features soup samplings from many area restaurants and delis for just $1 per portion. Enjoy live music, crafters, visits with Santa, and a leisurely stroll around the Capital Holiday Lights, all to support the 2016 Charities of Choice.
Family Nights on Sundays: On Sundays, the first 100 children receive a special prize, courtesy of Albany PAL.
December 6th, 13th, 20th, and 23rd - Reindeer Visits: Come and visit Santa's reindeer in front of the Lake House!
Albany Broadcasting: Your favorite Albany Broadcasting stations will be taking turns keeping Santa company - stop by and see them for prizes and giveaways. Participating stations are B95.5, JAMZ 96.3, FLY 92.3, 100.9 The Cat, and Magic 590 AM.
Celebrating a special occasion? Book a visit through Capital Holiday Lights and take advantage of a horse-drawn carriage, trolley, limousine, or your preferred mode of transportation. Celebrate your event in lights on the digital display board by contacting Sherry at 518.435.0392.
Horse drawn carriage rides: Horse drawn carriage rides are offered Thursday through Sunday evenings by Saratoga Horse and Carriage. For more information or reservations contact 518.573.3198.
Trolley rides: Trolley rides are available most nights through Adirondack Transportation. For more information or reservations, contact 518.433.0100.
Charities of Choice 2016
Albany Ronald McDonald House: The Ronald McDonald house provides a place of comfort, love, healing, and hope - for free - for critically ill children and their families.
Alzheimer's Association of NENY: The Alzheimer's Association works to advance care, support, and research across the world for those living with Alzheimer's.
The Albany Fund for Education: AFE brings forward new ideas, approaches, and funding to support the Albany City School District.
Note: Light Up the Holidays and the Capital Holiday Lights, Chili, Chowder and SoupFest contribute to the Charities of Choice; all other proceeds from Capital Holiday Lights benefit the juvenile crime prevention programs of PAL.
From the west: Go East on Route 20 into Albany. Bear right at fork in the road (intersection of Allen Street). Continue East on Madison Avenue to New Scotland Avenue entrance. Turn left into Washington Park.
From the east: Go West on I-90 to I-787 South. Continue South on I-787 to Madison Avenue exit. Proceed West on Madison Avenue to New Scotland Avenue. Entrance to Washington Park is on the right.
From the north: Take I-87 South to I-90 East. Take Exit 6 towards Arbor Hill. Continue straight on Henry Johnson Boulevard, following it to New Scotland Avenue entrance.
From the south: Take I-787 North to Exit 23 or (North to Southern Boulevard.). Take Southern Boulevard to Delaware Avenue. Take a right on Delaware Avenue and proceed to Madison Avenue. Take a left on Madison Avenue to the New Scotland Avenue entrace.
Volunteers are needed nightly! In addition to the lights, volunteers also work inside the Lakehouse to transform it into Santa’s Workshop with Santa, crafters, and more.
