The annual Gazette Holiday Parade in Schenectady is a cause for celebration among all ages. |
SCHENECTADY NY — Giant floats will light the streets of Schenectady at the 43nd Annual Gazette Holiday Parade on November 19th, 2011! This year's theme: Schenectady Celebrates Cartoon Characters!
The 2011 Gazette Holiday Parade will step off at 5pm at Schenectady County Community College. There will be over 100 floats, bands, dance troupes, marching groups and more! The parade will follow a route along State Street and end at the corner of Lafayette and State Street. The reviewing stand will be located on the corner of Erie Blvd. and State Street.
This year there will be all new prizes and awards including:
- Gazette Business Award -Winner will also receive a complimentary ½ page Ad in Gazette
- SEFCU Nonprofit Award - Winner will also receive a $500 donation to their organization
- Great Escape Company Youth Award - Winner will also receive 50 tickets to Great Escape for 2012 Season
- Red Suspenders Award - Winning Fire company will receive a $500 gift certificate to a local supermarket
- Stepping to the Music Award (musical group - band or dancers) - $500 donation to your favorite “Friends of Music” program
- Key Hall Best Adaptation of the Theme Award
- Chamber’s Best of Parade Award
Live music from local bands will provide entertainment before the parade steps off for an estimated 40,000 parade attendees. Expect to see cartoon character favorites and don't miss Santa Claus and Mayor Brian Stratton light the City's Christmas tree! Be a part of the holiday fun in Schenectady!
The City of Schenectady will close State Street to traffic at 4:00 pm from the Western Gateway Bridge to Nott Terrace for the parade, expected to run until about 7:00 pm. The parade is rain or shine!
Free public parking will be offered at Broadway Garage, Broadway Surface Lot, Broadway and Franklin Street, Amtrak lot (Erie Blvd. & Liberty Street), Erie Blvd. & Liberty Street North, Schenectady ARC’s parking lot off of S. Church Street, Lot next to Kentucky Fried Chicken (Entrance off of Liberty Street) and City lot located off between Liberty and Franklin Street.
