I think most people would agree that you just can’t beat this glorious time of year. The landscape is gorgeous, neighborhoods come alive with kids playing outside, and there is so much to do in the Capital Region. Beginning on the next page is a list of fair schedules for the season. For full-on amusement park fun not too far from home, spend a day at The Great Escape and be sure to visit the new Looney Tunes National Park. For adventure farther north, there is an array of things to keep you and your family busy—the Adirondack Park offers camping, hiking, quaint shopping, great restaurants, romantic B&B’s, fishing, boating and much more. This summer, take a trek up the Northway and enjoy the majestic Adirondack region and all it offers. On page 16 learn more about this six-million acre park and map out the spots you want to visit.
\nAlso in this issue is my “Day in the Life” column featuring Pastry Chef Bobby Mallozzi, owner of Villa Italia Pasticceria. A family-run business for 40 years, this bakery has become a staple for many in Schenectady and surrounding areas. Turn to page 29 to meet the owner and learn what his plans are for the future of the business.

\nI am pleased to welcome our new columnist—Dr. Randy Cale, a local parenting expert and licensed psychologist. Thousands of parents in the Capital Region have attended his seminars and parenting forums, where he offers practical and effective guidance to deal with a host of parenting issues. He is also a regular contributor on NewsChannel 13 and Capital News 9. His debut column on page 51 offers tips on how to create less struggle with your kids through automatic routines.
\nDon’t forget that June 19 is the day we celebrate our fathers—the men in our lives who helped shape who we are today. On page 48 read what some locals learned from dear old Dad. Some of the many things my father taught me include how to make a great antipasto, how to bet on a horse, how to grow tomatoes, and of course, an appreciation for Sinatra. Sound Italian to you?

Plan a spontaneous picnic for two.
