The Dress of your dreams is out there, but with one caveat. Most dresses will require a modification to fit you perfectly. Whether you are paying $99 or $2099, be prepared to add the cost of alterations to your budget. What determines the cost will include: the type of dress, fabric, number of layers of fabric and the amount of time the seamstress spends with you. Most seamstresses will explain in detail what has to be done. For example, very often tailoring the bodice to fit you properly will require some attention to sleeves or neckline so everything blends “seamlessly” pun intended. Let’s face it most of us are not used to spending money on clothes that fit. We just buy off the rack. However, for your special day and those unforgettable photos, off the rack won’t do. So, put aside anywhere from $100 to $400 and on up for alterations to make the dress “yours”. If you have a train that requires 20 bridesmaids to float you down the aisle prepare to spend more.
