Tech Valley, NY - Technology-Oriented Business Society in the Capital Region

Have you heard about Tech Valley? Chances are you've heard the name, but you may not know where or what it is.

Stretching more than 250 miles along the Hudson River, Tech Valley encompasses 18 counties along the eastern edge of New York State. Collectively, government and business leaders have joined together to build a tech-oriented economy in the region.

The epicenter of Tech Valley is the Albany - Schenectady - Troy metropolitan area of NY. Ideally located just three hours from Boston, New York City, and Montreal, this area offers urban, suburban and rural communities as well as easy access to a wide variety of cultural and educational opportunities.

Numerous businesses have adopted the Tech Valley moniker including communications companies such as Tech Valley Communications and Tech Valley Wireless; publications such as the Tech Valley Times; real estate firms such as TechValley Homes -- there's even a Tech Valley High!

What are the future prospects of Tech Valley NY? According to Bob Millis, publisher of the Tech Valley Times, the research jobs generated by the start-up of research and development facilities will lead to the spin-off of high tech industries that will (hopefully) remain in the area.

"The most obvious (and high profile) examples are the various programs centered around the UAlbany/Albany Nanotech facility and at RPI. Another significant player (and well kept secret) in the local economy are the many research jobs at GE-Global Research in Niskayuna."

If you build it, will they come? The migration has already begun. For example, Gabe Anderson relocated all the way from San Francisco, (not too far from another tech-related valley) to Saratoga Springs. According to numerous entries in his blog, Tech Valley really is a great place to live, work and play.
