TROY NY – Don't miss the 2nd Annual Troy Pig Out BBQ Festival in downtown Troy NY on July 18 - 19, 2009. The number of barbecue vendors has tripled for this year’s events, and the number of teams competing for the New York State championship have increased from 18 to 27.
"The first incarnation of the event was a wonderful experience, but this year we are stepping it up," said Elizabeth Young, Executive Director of the Troy Downtown Collaborative. "We have increased our food vendors, our musical acts, our competitors, our hours, and our activities. It should be a weekend to remember."
Last year, during the popular People’s Choice contest at Troy Pig Out, over 2,000 bite sized slices of beef were sold for $1 each in just 11 minutes! Because the event sold out so quickly, organizers are making a few changes for this year. The People's Choice contest will be a "Buck a Rib" contest, with the championship competitors using St. Louis style ribs. There will be 9,000 samples available, and tickets for the event will go on sale at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Even with the increased number of samples, tickets are still expected to sell out very quickly, so get there early!
Troy Pig Out is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society and will feature a NYS BBQ Championship, where serious barbeque contenders will go head to head for a spot in the Kansas City Barbecue Society Nationals. Winners will be chosen by certified judges in four categories: Pork, Chicken, Beef Brisket and Pork Ribs.

Live music, crafters, entertainment and fireworks are also on the agenda for this street festival in Riverfront Park. Front Street in Troy will be closed to traffic for the duration of the Troy Pig Out event to accommodate festival goers and competitors.
