The Albany Tulip Festival celebrates its 60th year as over 200,000 tulips spring to life in Washington Park for this highly anticipated event.

ALBANY NY — Named one of the 2008 Top 100 Events And Festivals by the American Bus Association, this year’s Albany Tulip Festival runs from Friday, May 9 – Sunday, May 11, 2008 and boasts over 140 different kinds of tulips, fine arts exhibits, live entertainment and much more. The event is FREE*.

A Touch of Dutch: The Tulip Festival is a time for the city of Albany to celebrate its Dutch heritage as the oldest Dutch settlement in America. Girls in authentic Dutch costumes kick off the festival each year with the traditional scrubbing of State Street.

New for 2008: “Night Fire” will be added to this year’s Albany Tulip Festival on Friday at 8:00 pm in celebration of the festival’s 60-year anniversary. This sunset ceremony will involve a combination of fire and the arts with a spectacular 2-hour presentation set to music by a live-string quartet.

 “Night Fire” is a community-inspired art project with several local individuals and companies contributing their talents. The display will feature a 15-foot steel sculpture (created by Albany artist Steven Rolf Kroeger), which will be cocooned in a bio-safe burnable structure and set alight while floating in Washington Park Lake.

Day Two of the Albany Tulip Festival - Washington Park hosts the crowning of the 2008 Tulip Queen, a young lady living in Albany County who is between the ages of 18 and 23.
