Maine’s Rahim Singleton hit a pair of free throws with under 5 seconds to go handing UAlbany a tough fought 66 to 64 loss at the SEFCU Arena.
The Great Danes Tim Ambrose missed a shot with 10 seconds to play and another at the buzzer that would have given the Albany (8-11 on the season, 1-3 in the America East) the lead. Overall, it was a tough game for Ambrose who scored 12 points on 5 of 17 from the field.
The game was tight throughout with the lead changing hands 15 times.
Mike Black led Will Brown’s team with 18 points.
The Great Danes return to the court Saturday night at the SEFCU Arena hosting Boston University, one of the top teams in the conference.
Observations
Mike Black looks like he is close to 100% following the ankle injury he suffered earlier in the season. A healthy Black is huge for the Great Danes if they hope to compete with some of the top teams in the conference.
Luke Devlin appears to be a great recruiting find by Coach Will Brown. The freshman from Australia will be a pretty good one before his time is up at UAlbany. Devlin drilled a three pointer with under four minutes to play to give his team the lead, a big shot at a tough time for a first year player.
Logan Aronhalt isn’t catching anyone by surprise anymore. The sophomore is finding his points harder to come by as the season progresses as opposing teams are including him in the scouting report.
