Last season the UAlbany Great Danes won just seven games. Now just eleven games into the 2010-2011 campaign, they have already won five games following their 64-63 win over Central Connecticut State at the SEFCU Arena Saturday.
Will Brown’s squad improves to 5-6 on the year. The Danes jumped out to a 15 point lead in the first half before hanging on late in the second half for the one point victory.
Senior Tim Ambrose continued his strong play leading the charge with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Mike Black slowly working back into game form following an ankle injury chipped in 15 points.
UAlbany will aim to pull even on the season next Saturday as they host Mount St. Mary’s.
Observations
The Great Danes big men are starting to grow up. John Puk (7 points, 4 rebounds), Blake Metcalf (6 points, 3 rebounds) and Luke Devlin (5 points, 11 rebounds) are helping to take some of the pressure of the guards.
UAlbany is starting to act like an improved team. They are no longer hoping to win, they believe they have the chance to compete every night.
Tim Ambrose is playing like an America East All-Conference candidate. He has been the constant performer all year for Will Brown.
