The UAlbany Great Danes continuing their surprising play this season opening up America East play with a 59-44 win over New Hampshire at the SEFCU Arena. With the win Will Brown’s squad evening their record at 8-8.
The win was huge for UAlbany as they move to the top of the America East standings at 1-0 after losing 21 of their past 24 conference wins. In addition the victory gave the Danes more wins at January 2nd than they had all of last season.
Tim Ambrose lead the UAlbany in all areas of the stat sheet with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Mike Black chipped in with 11 points.
The Great Danes next play Thursday, staying in conference on the road at Vermont.
Observations
Sunday’s win is a good indication of UAlbany’s improved play. New Hampshire was picked to finish in 4th in the America East coming into the season.
Tim Ambrose is putting together a season that could put him in the discussion for America East Player of the Year. While his scoring numbers haven’t been huge, his all around numbers are impressive.
The Great Danes are beginning to get contributions from their secondary players. John Puk (9 points, 7 rebounds) and Luke Devilin (8 points, 4 rebounds) were big to help lighten the load on Ambrose, Black and Logan Aronhalt.
