So you nailed down your goal – you want to start running! Whether that be a 5k, 10k, just getting out the door and running a mile… now how do you get started? Here are three of the best ways to go for it!
- Baby steps – create small goals, especially if you’re new to running. Make it feel easy to begin. Walk more than you run – add in 30 seconds of running for 2-3 minutes of walking, then the next time you go out, add in 15 seconds more of running. If you’re really feeling like a beginner, it’s best to give yourself a light challenge. I assure you, once you get out there you’ll feel mentally accomplished and probably end up adding in another 30 seconds to the end – or, it’ll feel a bit easy, and that’ll make you come back for more!
- Grab a buddy – we’ve told you this time and time again, a partner is the way to get yourself out there and accountable. Make a run date with a friend.
- Schedule it – make an appointment with yourself and stick to it. Place it on your calendar, give yourself a reminder and feel that sense of urgency when you know there’s 15 minutes before you need to go.
There are always more tips, but start here. Don’t overwhelm yourself with trying a hundred different ways to make yourself accomplish things – this is why people tend to let their resolutions go because they make them too hard to achieve. So start with this and celebrate each victory.
Happy running!
Sincerely,
K
