Coming into the season the Siena Saints carrying the country’s second longest home court winning streak at 38 wins in a row. That streak ended after the first game of the season and following their 72 to 55 loss to Fairfield Friday night, Siena is now zero for four on the season at the Times Union Center.
Mitch Buonaguro’s team, now 2-6 on the season, struggled to score most of the evening on the MAAC Conference’s best defensive team in Fairfield. Not only did Siena have trouble scoring they also turned the ball over at a high rate with 17 turnovers.
Fairfield lead by only 5 points at the half, however the preseason MAAC favorites turned it on in the second half to hand Siena their worst loss of the season.
The Saints were lead by Clarence Jackson’s 14 points. Siena continues their four game homestand Monday against Florida Atlantic
Observations
Rakeem Brookins makes several plays a game that display signs of being a great point guard in the future, but he is also showing even more flashes that he is a freshman. Brookins struggled with the press Friday showed lapses on several easy passes.
Tip of the cap to the Fairfield defense. Every opponent this season has had trouble containing Ryan Rossiter. The stags denied him the ball holding him to 7 points and 7 rebounds.
Owen Wignot missed the game after being hit in the face against UAlbany. The extra scoring punch was greatly missed.
