The New York State Firefighters Memorial stands on the northeast side of the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. It honors the men and women of the fire service who perished in the line of duty in New York State.
The memorial took on greater meaning after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and continues to be a reminder of the great courage and sacrifice that the NYS firefighters embody.
The ten-foot-high sculpture represents two firefighters rescuing an injured comrade away from the wall of death. The wall is 54 feet high, and is engraved with the names of fallen firefighters.
