One of the biggest things we promote at FitSimple is that fitness should be fun. And, in order to get ourselves up off the couch sometimes to have that fun, we need to do things that are easy. Then, we work our way to the more challenging adventures.
Say hello to walking – your gateway exercise.
Think about this, you may have a desk job where you sit all day, you lay down while sleeping between five and eight hours a night, you come home and you’re exhausted so you sit in front of the TV… calculate that and you’re sitting or laying down for up to 20 hours a day. Your metabolism is begging for some action.
Getting up and walking around for even 10 minutes three times a day can give you a boost both in energy and calorie burn. Here’s how to fit it in.
- Start your day on the right foot – literally. A brisk walk in the morning can get you energized and ready for your day. Even 10 minutes of walking the dog instead of just letting them out can start that metabolism burning for you.
- Take your meetings outside – We’re more engaged when we’re active! The blood is flowing, we’re more focused – it’s a perfect formula for meeting success.
- Grab 10 minutes during lunch time. We tend to get focused and not get up from our desk – even eating our meal over our keyboard. You will have more clarity of mind if you get yourself up, take a walking break and come back refreshed and ready for the rest of your day.
- Your dessert – Walking helps your digestion and curbs cravings. So if you are itching for that after dinner treat, treat yourself to a stroll instead.
Walking is not only good for your body, but it’s good for your mind as well. Turn on your favorite tunes or simply enjoy the sounds of nature. You don’t even have to work up a sweat to burn some calories and get yourself in a better state. Take some deep breaths and let your cares work themselves out.
Walking is also a great addition to your current routine. Imagine burning another 100+ calories a day with something so simple. Start adding those minutes in until you get to at least 30 each day.
Happy walking!
Sincerely,
K
