With their best player and point guard Mike Black sitting out with an ankle injury, you had to figure Albany’s offense would suffer. After shooting 31%, in their 57 to 44 loss against American University, struggle is an understatement. The Great Danes, never finding a rhythm offensively, often passing the ball around the perimeter before throwing up a contested shot with time ticking out of the 35 second shot clock. Tim Ambrose led Will Brown’s team with a nice all around game 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Logan Aronhalt chipped in 11 points, but his shot was off, hitting only 4 of 14 from the field. The Great Danes now hit the road for a road game against Georgia Tech Wednesday night.
Observations
Albany doesn’t have too many guys who can create their own shot, which makes the loss of Mike Black that much tougher. Black will not play against Georgia Tech but there is an outside chance he might be ready to play Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Sophomore Blake Metcalf was probably the best of the bigs Monday night. He showed some solid post moves scoring 6 points and also grabbed four rebounds.
Freshman big man John Puk started at center for the second game and suffered through a tough night no points, one rebound and 5 fouls in just 13 minutes on the court.
