Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" is not only the most enduringly popular instrumental work of the Baroque period; it is also a revolutionary work that was wildly innovative and unique for its time. The concerto form as we currently know it was still in its infancy in 1723, when Vivaldi created this set of four violin concertos inspired by a set of sonnets describing each of the four seasons.

The Memorial Concert Band of Colonie will present its annual POPS concert on Wednesday, May 29 at Shaker High School, 445 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Latham, at 7:30 PM. Please note the location change from our usual concert venue. The theme for the concert is "Swing into Summer". Music Director Doug Dougherty has assembled a mix of light classics, big band inspired pieces, and show tunes. Highlights from the program are: An arrangement of Franz von Suppe's "Light Cavalry Overture" (you will recognize the tune);
"Liberty Fanfare" by famed American conductor and composer John William, which was written to honor the 100th anniversary of the Statue of Liberty;
A medley "Big Band Spectacular" and George Gershwin's "Strike up the Band"; The clarinet section featured in Leroy Anderson's "Clarinet Candy"; A collection of familiar movie themes in "Hooray for Hollywood".

The Albany Symphony is extremely proud to welcome legendary American pianist, Emanuel Ax, who makes his debut with the orchestra as the centerpiece of our American Music Festival. Mr. Ax joins the orchestra for Christopher Rouse's "Seeing," an extraordinary piano concerto commissioned by the New York Philharmonic for Mr. Ax in 1999. The work, which is almost operatic in scope, quotes liberally from Schumann's Piano Concerto.

We are super excited for all the country shows and have decided the only thing that would make this summer EVEN BETTER is if YOU didn't have to worry about transportation!
Therefore, we will be providing a 35 passenger shuttle bus (with a bathroom & beers along the way) to and from SPAC FOR ONLY $20!
If you have purchased tickets to a country show below, then why not purchase transportation as well?! The bus will leave The Barrel at 5:15pm and return after the concert.
