New York Celebrates Women
The 101st International Women’s Day
Join women around the globe March 8th
Honor the history, accomplishments
and spirit of WOMEN!
International Women’s Day is a holiday celebrated globally on March 8th to mark the economic, political and social accomplishments of women. Women gather to acknowledge both our progress and our struggles.
In the shadow of the State Capitol, and with the support of key elected officials, business, women’s advocacy organizations and others – NY Celebrates Women is a first annual collaborative statewide tribute to women who have made a difference through their lives and work.
Come celebrate WOMEN and extraordinary acts of strength, courage and determination by the sometimes ordinary women who have played an important role in our history.
- Celebrate Women Reception – 12-1:30 p.m. invited guests to include federal, state and local elected officials; women in business, as mothers, educators and in government; service and advocacy organizations who support and celebrate women.
- Celebrate Women Film Fest – 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. featuring the Upstate New York premier of “When Women Come Marching Home,” a film about women veterans and their struggles returning to daily life. A discussion with the film’s producers will follow.
- Celebrate Women Fair – informational and educational materials available by participating organizations, promoting education of girls and women, women’s health, services for women veterans, and other issues of importance to women and their families.
Proceeds from NY Celebrates Women to benefit Wiawaka Holiday House, the oldest retreat for women in the nation, providing respite for women since 1903, and its immediate CRITICAL NEED, restoration of the Wakonda Lodge, an original Adirondack lodge and Lake George waterfront landmark.
