Honor Flight:One Last Mission is a heartwarming documentary about four living World War II veterans and a Midwest community coming together to give them the trip of a lifetime. Volunteers race against the clock to fly thousands of WWII veterans to Washington, DC to see the memorial constructed for them in 2004, nearly 60 years after their epic struggle.
Enjoy the Pine Bush at night with an hour long hike under the almost full moon. We will walk approximately 1 mile over rolling topography stopping intermittently for night vision and sound observations. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather.

There will be health screenings, educational breakout sessions, manicure touch-ups and a silent auction featuring "purse-onalities" donated by local women. Cardiologist Dr. Andalib Nawab, medical director of Ellis Medicine's Women & Heart Disease Program at the Neil and Jane Golub Breast and Heart Health Center at the Bellevue Women's Center, will be the keynote speaker. Mary Hart, whose heart functioned at 10 percent of its capacity before doctors diagnosed heart disease, will share her story. Money raised funds research to help the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement fight heart disease in women. Tickets are $100 each.

Civil War medicine has been described by the three "B's" ? butchery, barbaric and brutal ? by many historians on The History Channel and The Civil War Journal?and some of them were physicians also. This is a flawed approach however. We must look at medicine and even soldiering in the context of the time in which it occurred, not from our perspective 150 years later. Civil War medicine was flawed; but great advances occurred in medicine because of the War. This presentation will deal with some of the truths and myths about 19th Century medicine and will cover the practical advances that occurred during the War, but are often overlooked. A replica capital amputation kit and other medical items will be on display as part of this presentation. The presenter, Dr. Matthew Farina, is a retired pediatric cardiologist, who has been a student of Civil War history for many years. He is a past present of the Capital District Civil War Round Table, and has been editor of its newsletter since 2000. Registration is recommended.

The VFW/Memorial Day Parade Committee of the village of Nassau will be hosting a Memorial Day Parade on Memorial Day, May 27. The committee is looking for a marching band and other veterans? service organizations to participate.
Parade starts at Patridge Street and Central Avenue and continues east on Central to Washington Avenue to North Hawk Street. Reviewing stand at State Education Building on Washington Avenue.
The annual Memorial Day parade will kick off at 11:00 a.m. at the Elsmere Fire House and will proceed down Elsmere Avenue to a right on to Kenwood Avenue to a left on to Adams Place to a right on to Adams Street to a right on to Delaware Avenue and will end with a ceremony at the Bethlehem Veterans Memorial Park.

This Path Through History Weekend, experience a farm market atmosphere in the city of Albany! Meet the animals that Philip Schuyler would have had on his farm and learn about agricultural practices of the 18th century. Oxen, sheep and goats will be among the livestock on display and there will be ponies to ride, while demonstrations, farm products, and gardening techniques will be shared with visitors throughout the afternoon. Harmony House Tours has partnered with Dutch Apple Cruises to bring a new "Land & Water Tour of Albany"! Part of I Love New York's "Path through History" celebration, tours will take place on June 1 &2, and June 8&9 to coincide with the statewide celebration.
First, Harmony House Tours provides a land tour of Albany based on its 300+ years of history. Boarding time is 11am at Dutch Apple Cruises parking lot, along the historic Hudson River in downtown Albany. The Historic tour of Albany will leave at 11:15am and return at 12:30pm. The annual Albany Diocesan Cemetery Photography Contest is now accepting photos of all 15 diocesan cemeteries throughout the Capital Region.
First place prize is $600, second place prize is $400 and third place and student prizes of $200 each. Participants are allowed to submit two photos for judging.
Submissions will be accepted from Feb. 11 until Sept. 30. A display will be held on Saturday, Oct.19, from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Empire State Plaza Concourse.

This course is for those who have completed the Beginning and Continuing Beginning Spanish Language Courses or who have a beginning background in Spanish.This Spanish class is ideal for those who wish to learn to speak Spanish, yet have a small mastery of the basics of the Spanish Language.In this class, you will deepen and increase your ability to create meaningful integrated sentences talking about a wide variety of activities, ask and answer questions in various verb tenses and increase your vocabulary on a variety of subjects. This Spanish class is a review and expansion of the basics centered around some of the verbs. Speaking is emphasized with reading and writing used as re-enforcement.

The visiting artist series Re-Place Kohonios an exhibition by Merritt Johnson which surveys a landscape of place and displacement, and the importance of space and location in the process of identity formation. It is a narrative of land, diaspora and nativism-an epic of place and culture coming apart under the pressure of appropriation and dislocation from ancestral soil. The exhibition offers a rich platform to explore the art being made about dislocation as a critique of modern society.

After retiring from teaching art in 1993, Paul has focused and refined his specialty of sculpture and cinematography. His love for animals is ever-present in his work, where images of animals are used to portray the secrets of life. The element of line is the most import and carries the design. He is known for both his sculptures and his oil paintings.
