About this event

R'Ville Stage Creations presents The Laramie Project at Bridge Street Theatre June 19–21, 2026.

One of the most influential works of documentary theatre ever written, The Laramie Project explores the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay college student whose death became a catalyst for national conversations about hate crimes, LGBTQ+ rights, and community responsibility.

Created by Moisés Kaufman and members of Tectonic Theater Project, the play was developed from more than 200 interviews conducted with residents of Laramie, Wyoming. Rather than telling a single story, it presents a tapestry of voices—friends, clergy, law enforcement officers, students, business owners, and community members—each struggling to understand how such a tragedy could occur in their town.

Performed by a cast of eight actors portraying more than sixty characters, The Laramie Project offers audiences an intimate and deeply human examination of grief, fear, empathy, and resilience. The play avoids simple answers, instead inviting audiences into a conversation about identity, compassion, justice, and healing.

Presented during Pride Month, this Catskill community production offers a timely opportunity to engage with a landmark piece of American theatre that continues to inspire dialogue and reflection more than twenty-five years after its premiere.

Performances are Friday and Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 2pm.

Tickets: $30 Adults / $25 Students
